Does the width of a cable zip tie influence it's tensile strength?
There is a strong link between a cable zip tie's tensile strength (how much force it can handle before breaking) and its width. Most of the time, a wider zip tie has a higher tensile strength because it can spread force more evenly. A 0.3-inch (7.6mm) wide zip tie can usually hold up to 120 pounds of tension, while a 0.1-inch (2.5mm) wide tie might only be able to hold up to 18 pounds. It's important to know this relationship when picking out zip ties for certain jobs to make sure they can hold the pressure without breaking.
Is there a difference between zip ties and cable ties?
People often use the words "zip ties" and "cable ties" to refer to the same thing. A ratcheting device on one end of a thin, flexible nylon strip holds the strip in place when it is threaded through a small hole at one end. Both terms refer to the same type of fastener.
People often use the word "cable tie" in business or technical settings because these ties were first made to hold electrical cables and wires in place. "Zip tie" is a more broad term that people use all the time. This may be because of the sound made when the tie is pulled tight.
Zip ties, which are another name for cable ties, have a few key features that make them useful in a lot of different situations. These are the main things about cable zip ties:
